"It is crazy to think it's been ten years since we released this album," exclaims guitarist Francisco Haussmann. "I remember we just wanted to play as fast as possible and make a record without any overproduction or too much editing. We just wanted to bring the stench of the rehearsal room into the speakers and it turned out great. No metronome, no pre-recorded guitar tracks, just 1-2-3-4 go!" Released May 2008 Ten Broken Codes hit the thrash scene with an almighty thud! A violent, cutting edge thrash attack well-received by both fans and critics and which ultimately landed the band their first foray outside South America. "This may not seem like a big thing to some," says Haussmann, "but for small band from Chile back then... it really was a big deal for us." Later the band would sign to Candlelight Records, record with legendary producers such as Russ Russell, release another two studio albums, two live albums, a live DVD, tour Europe, grace festival stages across the world... and as they say... the rest is history. To mark the 10 year anniversary of the records release the band have teamed up with Sick Bangers to re-issue the album in vinyl format, strictly limited to 300 copies. This vinyl edition comes with a new layout, renewed artwork, never before seen pictures and a special vinyl mastering. "I'm pretty sure everyone will enjoy the new thick and warm sound of it; Audio Custom Studio did a great job and we are pretty excited and cannot wait for this vinyl to come out!" As a prelude to the release of Mother Culture, Dark Essence Records has released the title track as a single, which is available from and can be heard at https://avastband.bandcamp.com/track/mother-culture. Hailing from Stavanger, Norway, Avast consists of Hans Olaf Myrvang (Agenda) on bass and vocals, Trond Salte (Agenda), Ørjan Lund (Nag) on guitars, and Stian Steensnæs (Lik) on drums, Avast is a band that reviewers and promoters place in a variety of genres. Whilst the band's roots lie in punk rock and hardcore, it would be safe to say that blackgaze and post-black metal are genres that could be applied to Avast, given that Avast's lyrical themes are not centred around the usual black metal topics, but tend more towards a philosophical and poetical take on social and environmental issues. The members of Avast themselves describe Mother Culture as:- “a concept album that examines the myths upon which modern civilization is based”, and “an apocalyptic tale about the rise and fall of human civilization, and how we have exploited the Earth’s resources to such a degree that we are now standing on the brink of our own extinction. Musically the record borrows equally from the black metal and post-rock genres, and lyrically it draws inspiration from Daniel Quinn’s philosophical novel Ishmael.” Artwork by Ole Nymoen. The Shadowpath line-up was put together quickly and what followed, was a lot of fun, heavy work and creative intensity. The first 10 songs were written, arranged and recorded as a demo Into The Shadows. While constantly creating fresh and innovative music, the band then worked with a variety of inspiring musicians, in particular Dominique (now Deadline X), who not only recorded a couple of amazing tracks during that period, but also played several concerts with Shadowpath (eg. with Lunatica). The band then recorded a second demo EP, Dissipating Flows, which included a collaboration with international guest artists such as Chilean guitarist Pierre. Shadowpath went on a small concept tour through different Swiss locations (with Deep Sun, Mind Patrol, Under My Skin, etc.), after which a major project arose as the band decided to finally record their debut studio album, Rumours Of A Coming Dawn. It was recorded with Gisselle (ex-Confess) and mixed at SOS Basement Rec. and mastered at Echochamber in Zurich. The album received an independent online release in 2017 and gained incredibly positive feedback from various reviewers comparing the groups music to bands like Opeth and Nightwish. Singer Simone Christinat (Ex-Felony, Ex-Elis, Ex-Legenda Aurea) has now joined Shadowpath for live shows and to work on the bands second album, which is going to be another incomparable, intriguing piece of woven acoustic dreams. Shadowpath create a melodically sweet, melancholy, gloomy, yet uncompromisingly brutal world, always accompanied by subtle, intense lyrics full of emotions. Their soundscape, as it has since the very early days, includes all the different influences from symphonic, progressive, gothic, death and power metal – or as one reviewer once put it: “An open-minded sound and a healthy disregard for traditional genre limitations”! Sliptrick Records will be re-releasing Rumours Of A Coming Dawn worldwide on CD and the usual digital platforms soon! The video was directed and edited by Jouni Valjakka’s (Whispered) Obliviart Productions. Edward Torchia, the vocalist and the mastermind behind the video comments the piece: ”Light My Path is about walking the final day and washing oneself in the river of death. While writing the lyrics I had a strong visual image of the story, so I really wanted to depict that in a visual form at some point. It was important for me that everything happened in water so half of the video was shot literally in a lake. The five of us have already made the passage and are beckoning the one dying to join in the abyss.” Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ANVkVEl5cu8 The band also heads on to tour Europe at the end of September. This unique flick has been directed by David Sherbrook of Infested Films - an independent horror movie company based in Los Angeles. It tells an allegorical story of a man trapped in a horrid and unexplained experience. Its symbolic visions evoked by the lyrics leave space for interpretation and tease your mind. Starring: Daniel Button, Stephen Craig and Heather Higginbotham, with outstanding FX created by Scott Dawson. The video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdMP5ExA-Ik Sebastian Rokicki (guitars) comments: "I am totally blown away by the work of David & crew. It is completely different from what I've expected and from what I've known as a big movie fan I am. I hope I won't be alone in my opinion because the music and the pictures make a perfect match and leave you with unanswered questions, the true essence of life". Here is what the director David Sherbrook says: "I've been a big fan of Antigama's for a while now. I think their music evokes really unique imagery and emotions, and their affinity for Sci-Fi themes is right up my alley, so it was an honour to make the video. I wanted to make something that visually embodies those qualities and leaves the viewer with a sense of dread and unease, while also getting to play around with some really off-the-wall ideas. It was a blast to make and I hope it resonates with the fans as much as it does with me." Antigama currently promote the new EP "Depressant" and will headline the "Crazy People's Right to Grind" UK tour in September and the "Depressant Over US" tour in October starting at the California Deathfest 2018 in Oakland. www.infestedfilms.com www.davidsherbrook.com www.facebook.com/antigama www.selfmadegod.com www.facebook.com/selfmadegod www.selfmadegod.bandcamp.com www.instagram.com/selfmadegod_records www.soundcloud.com/selfmadegodrecords www.youtube.com/user/SelfmadegodRecords |
